Smart Travel Tips - Guayana

Make your trip a safe and enjoyable one. Please observe the following recommendations and regulations:
- Do not extract flowers, trees, or other plants from the parks.
- Using plants and trees to make campfires can alter the equilibrium of nutrients in the ecosystems.
- Do not venture close to ledges near waterfalls or cliffs, as rocks on the edge of these may be unstable and break easily.
- Always wear a lifevest when riding on curiaras and other boats. The waters of many of the rivers found here may present rapids and other dangers.
- Always follow your guide's directions and suggestions. He/she knows the area and the time necessary to accomplish all of your activities.
- Carry and use non-aerosol insect repellant.
- Wear long trousers and appropriate boots.
- Be mindful of where you step, lean, or sit, when venturing in the forested areas or on the open plains.
- Stay on the trail and avoid trampling sensitive vegetation.
- Avoid smoking or other type of activity that may cause fires.
- "Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints." Trash is one of the biggest enemies of the environment.
- Please respect the norms and customs of the local people.
