Cumaná and Vicinity

Northeastern Venezuela
Across the state of Sucre and the northern part of the state of Monagas, the terrain presents contrasting natural beauty. On the western part of the peninsula de Araya the land is arid, while the eastern section, towards the peninsula de Paria, there are tropical forests with lush vegetation. There are important salt mines in Araya, as well as many desolate beaches. The gulf of Cariaco is a very picturesque fishing village. With its numerous islands, coastal inlets and mountains, El Parque Nacional de Mochima is a paradise for scuba divers and nature lovers. Caripe, in the mountains of the state of Monagas, is where you'll find the famous Cueva del Guacharo.
